Sure you can trust your government to tell the truth, just ask a Native American. This is absolutely no shock to many of us rational people in the world. But, the Bush Administration puts party and religious ideology ahead of the health of U.S. Citizens, more specifically our children.
For years, the Bush Administration put misleading and incorrect information on government websites: "Abortions can have complications. There may be emotional consequences, as well: some women say that they feel sad and some use more alcohol or drugs than before." My personal favorite is that having an abortion causes breast cancer.
From the get go the Bush administration wanted to do favors for the people who put him in office. His cronyism has and will negatively affect our children. The government website http://www.4parents.gov/ puts misinformation about the failure rate of condoms and other misleading statistics. I know , personally, that telling kids that condoms don't work doesn't scare them into not having sex; it just gets kids not to use condoms.
To promote the ant-choice, abstinence only agenda, Bush put in cronies such as Dr. W. David Hager who said prayer and reading scripture was effective in stopping menstrual cramps. (Works all the time for me). He voted against letting Plan B go OTC, despite overwhelming committee approval. Joe McIlhaney, added in 2002, the head of an abstinence only group, to head Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS. He is also active on similar committees.
To sum up: Dr. Richard Carmona, surgeon general from 2002 to 2006, told a House committee, "Anything that doesn't fit into the political appointees' ideological, theological or political agenda is ignored, marginalized or simply buried." If you want facts, go to SIECUS or Planned Parenthood.
